The Charleston Academy of Music (CAM), founded in January 2003, is a non-profit music preparatory school whose goal is to become recognized as the premiere music prep school in the state for children and young adults. The faculty includes talented musicians from the College of Charleston and the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. CAM offers individual instruction in piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, and voice. ACMP - The Chamber Music Network
ACMP - The Chamber Music Network traces its origins back to 1947 and an idea of an American business executive named Leonard Strauss, whose work involved a good deal of time traveling. Tired of practicing alone in hotel rooms, he dreamed of a network of chamber musicians who could contact one another for string quartets at home on when "on the road." The organization grew in membership all over the world and today there are over 5000 members in 57 countries. In 1969 ACMP incorporated in New York State as a non-profit organization and it is recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt agency.
In 1993, the ACMP Foundation was established to support the aims and purposes of the ACMP. Since inception, over $3.6 million have been disbursed for programs and projects that encourage participatory chamber music. The Foundation currently makes awards in four catagories: Community Music, Weekend Workshops, Special Initiatives, and Home Coaching. Please visit their website for Grant Guidelines, Applications, and more information about ACMP - The Chamber Music Network.
